Statement of Amanda Ussak, CFC International Program Director, in Support of the DC Strengthening Reproductive Health Protections Amendment Act of 2019

My name is Amanda Ussak and I am a proud Catholic and DC resident. On behalf of Catholics for Choice, I am grateful to be here today to express our strong support for B23-434, the Strengthening Reproductive Health Protections Amendment Act of 2019.

Catholics for Choice serves as a voice for the majority of Catholics—including the more than one half million Catholics in the District of Columbia—who support access to comprehensive reproductive care, including abortion.

Catholic teaching supports each woman’s ability to make personal, moral decisions that are right for herself and her family, including whether and when to become or remain pregnant, based on her own, individual conscience.

The majority of Catholics are prochoice.  The majority of people of faith are prochoice.  The majority of the District’s residents are prochoice, and this legislation ensures that every resident will have the freedom to follow their conscience. Catholics for Choice is proud to join our partners in support of B23-434, the Strengthening Reproductive Health Protections Amendment Act of 2019 and to stand with the majority of DC constituents, Catholics, and non-Catholics alike, who support access to comprehensive healthcare, including abortion.
