Statement by Jon O’Brien, President of Catholics for Choice, on Zubik v. Burwell Decision

Jon O’Brien, president of Catholics for Choice, issued the following response to the Supreme Court’s decision in Zubik v. Burwell.

It is extremely disappointing that the Court has chosen not to side with the conscience-based decision making of workers. They have punted the decision to lower courts. The blame for the current impasse can be laid clearly at the feet of the Obama administration.  Their lack of conviction and refusal to stand up for the rights of individuals in an effort to appease faith-based big business caused this calamity in the first place. Hopefully lower courts, based upon their track record to date, may decide that the individual rights of American workers need to be defended, not traded away in a dishonest and deceitful ruse of finding balance.
